Perspective

I've been sick with an upper respiratory infection for three weeks.  I am exhausted.  I have a sore throat.  I am coughing up stuff that looks like it comes from a horror movie.  I bruised a rib during said coughing.  I have been to the doctor twice, and I head back again today.  I am doing my best not to complain about my situation too much, but I know that my husband is probably tired of hearing me moan and groan about it all.

I was feeling fairly sorry for myself yesterday, and then it dawned on me that this is nothing.  This is nothing compared to what some of my own family and friends have endured.  This is nothing compared to what thousands upon thousands of people with chronic illnesses go through day in and day out.  The exhaustion, the fear, the isolation ~ it all must be so overwhelming difficult to handle.

It could always be much, much worse.
